As a response to increased security threats, federal legislation in the United States and abroad has mandated the use of biometric technology in public sector applications. Airports, law enforcement agencies, governments and private-sector companies have implemented or are testing biometrics as a means of verifying the identity of employees, enforcement agents and travelers. When surveyed by Opinion Research, 86% of Americans indicated that they feel that government agencies and private-sector organizations are justified in adopting biometrics as a means of crime prevention.
