Since the telephone is an inmate’s primary means external contact, prison officials recognize the importance of ensuring that no illegal activity occurs via this channel. In many cases, inmates are given a set number of minutes for telephone usage, but some inmates will share minutes with another inmate by giving out their calling PIN. This makes it difficult to track calls by specific prisoners and leads to abuse of calling privileges.

With Spike Server, an individual under house arrest can be effectively monitored without the need for expensive and cumbersome electronic devices. Spike Server will verify the individual’s identity and, optionally, record any subsequent conversation. The system works as follows:

  1. Spike Server initiates an outbound call to the individual’s house. The call times can be random or pre-selected by authorized officials.
  2. Spike Server prompts the call recipient to speak a short phrase.
  3. The call recipient is verified with biometric voice verification.
  4. The call results are logged and, if necessary, authorities are notified.
